The Rectus Abdominus muscles pass from the ribs and breastbone to the pubic bones. A ligamentous band called the Linea Alba holds the Recti together. This band softens and stretches as the abdomen enlarges during pregnancy and the muscle moves apart. This separation is called a Divarication. If it does not resolve spontaneously then surgical correction can be preformed.Â
Types of spots
- blackheads – they’re not filled with dirt, but are black because the inner lining of the hair follicle produces colour
- whiteheads – will not empty when squeezed
- papules – small red bumps
- pustules – similar to papules, but have a white tip
- nodules – large hard lumps that build up beneath the surface of the skin and can be painful
- cysts – the most severe type of spot caused by acne; they’re large pus-filled lumps and carry the greatest risk of causing permanent scarring
